5 Reasons Why I’m Still Vegan
Friends or co-workers occasionally ask me, “Do you ever miss eating meat?”.
I have to stop myself from laughing.
These days, veganism is every where. The Impossible Burger sold out of stores nationwide, celebrities like Niecy Nash, Andre 3000, Ava Duvernay, and Erykah Badu have come out as proudly plant based. However, only about 2% of the US population practices a vegan lifestyle. Many people can’t imagine a meal without animal flesh on their plate. On the other hand, I’ve been vegan for more than 5 years, and vegetarian for many years before that. I can prepare filling, delicious meals and snacks with all the colorful fruits, vegetables, seasonings, and spices available in any grocery store.
Do I miss eating meat? Not at all. How could I?
Plants can be prepared in so many delicious ways that it’s inconceivable that I’d ever eat meat again. Every day, I feast on amazing meals, with flavors from all over the world: curry, tacos, falafel, burgers, even ice cream and chocolate chip cookies. Anything I want to eat can be made vegan.
Cooking meat and even eggs smell sweaty and unappetizing to me now.
A vegan lifestyle conserves resources such as clean water, clean air, and forests on our planet.
Innocent animals don’t have to be unnecessarily tortured, abused, and killed.
I feel amazing. In my late 30s, friends around me are starting to complaining about aches, sprains, and sicknesses I don’t even think about, even those much less active than I am. I currently work an active job, lift weights 4- 5 times a week, and train the explosive martial art of Muay Thai, all powered by plants. I’m stronger, fitter, and healthier than most people my age, even younger.
